I met Melanie when she interned at the agency where I work, and she was such an awesome intern–intelligent, professional, and so sweet! She was also multitalented, contributing to both the "pictures" and "words" side of our work at Bramblett Group. Melanie is about to take on the world as a college graduate, and I was so excited when she asked me to take a few photos for her in her cap and gown! She and her mom were so patient with me during this shoot and I felt like such a mess! I had worked as a vendor at a bridal brunch all morning. Then, the bypass into Jackson (aka the easiest way to get anywhere) was closed for construction this day and if you know anything about me, you know I am TERRIBLE with directions, so shutting down my main route made me pretty nervous. I managed to get there about 20 minutes early, so I made sure I found the spot where I was meeting her and then drove basically back around the corner to get coffee since I had plenty of time. Cut to 20 minutes later, and I was still waiting for my coffee in a not-even-crowded-but-very-slow-Starbucks while Melanie and her mom waited for me in our designated meeting spot. I finally got my coffee and headed back, and somehow got myself lost in parking lots even though I had JUST been there. I felt like such a doofus. It turned out okay though, because I wound up driving past the spot that became the inspiration for my favorite photos of the day, which I wouldn't have found if I had any sense of direction! ;) More on that soon. So I mentioned the inspiration for the location of my favorite shots! Well, surprise, I am terrible with directions and couldn't remember how to get back to that spot. Of course. But Melanie and her mom were such champs and trekked across campus as I kept insisting there was a "tree with white flowers somewhere over here!" I'm so glad they trusted me and my terrible sense of direction, because these shots were so worth it. Melanie is so lovely inside and out, and I can't wait to see how she changes the world!
